The Virginia Tech Housing Application Process (HAP), sometimes referred to as the Housing Lottery, is how undergraduate returning students request civilian housing for the upcoming academic year. Most undergraduate returning students who have an interest in receiving a housing contract for the 2023 ౼ 2024 academic year should join the HAP.
The Housing Application Process opens in January for the following academic year. Entering the HAP does not obligate a student to live on campus. Once students complete their Housing/Dining Contract, they are committed to live on-campus. Students who want to live on campus should join the HAP.
First-year student housing contracts are due by June 1 of the upcoming academic year. Virginia Tech is committed to our first-year students housing and dining plan requirement with the goal of accommodating all first-year students.
Virginia Tech boasts world-class award-winning dining centers and provides students with a wide range of on-campus housing options. All first-year students are required to live on campus, are guaranteed housing, and must have a dining plan. However, students must complete their housing/dining contract to be assigned a room.
Virginia Tech maintains a first-year housing and dining plan requirement with the goal of accommodating all first-year students. Housing Application Process
The Virginia Tech Housing Application Process (HAP) for the 2025-2026 academic year is scheduled to open at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025. This timeframe allows prospective students ample time to complete their applications and secure their preferred housing options;
Applications for Living-Learning Programs are typically available once an incoming student has accepted their offer of admission to Virginia Tech and paid the matriculation fee. At this stage, a housing contract will be made available to eligible students. A key component of the application process involves expressing interest in and applying to Living-Learning Programs, allowing students to tailor their residential experience to their academic and extracurricular interests.
The HAP serves as the primary mechanism for undergraduate returning students to request civilian housing for the upcoming academic year. The majority of undergraduate returning students who wish to secure a housing contract for the 2023-2024 academic year should participate in the HAP.
It’s crucial to note that entering the HAP does not automatically obligate a student to live on campus. Living-Learning Programs

LLP applications for the 2024-2025 academic year are due on November 20, 2023. This deadline provides ample time for students to carefully consider their program choices and submit their applications.
